I bought a nice looking Vanguard with W.I from Andy the other day. The serial number ( 19064253 ) says its pendant set but the watch is actually lever set at 11 o'clock. Anyone have any thoughts on this? Is the serial database incorrect?

Joseph, I have seen and restored numerous higher end 16s Waltham watches with dial plate machined to accept Pendant OR Lever setting parts. My first guess is you have one like that that has been fitted for pendant set. Unless you want to run a railroad, you may best leave it that way.

David, I will leave it. I was just curious if its been observed before. Since the serial number says it should be pendant set (and its not), does it detract from value or authenticity?

Not at all, it makes it more interesting as a collectible with greater value if anything. Only the factory could machine the plate to make it interchangeable.

I agree with David, your watch may have been special ordered pendant setting.
