I have a Model A case with shoulders. Would that be the right case for a 1941-1942 s/n C29740. I can't seem to find the answer in the 992B section. I found a section that list the cases for the 992 but the cases for the 1941-1942 cases is not listed.

Thanks,
Harry

Ok I've been going through the 992 info that Lindell put on the site. What it looks like to me (and I know very little about the cases) is that the Model A case with the shoulders was used on the 992B from 1940 through about 1946. Am I reading that right?

High Shoulders on Case A and 11 which used the same frame were 1940-1948 Harry.

Lindell has the beginnings of his long awaited Keystone Database here:

KEYSTONE-HAMILTON CASE A AND CASE 11 DATABASE EXAMPLES YEAR-BY-YEAR

That is along the lines of his ground breaking Wadsworth work:

WADSWORTH-HAMILTON CASE NUMBERS, History, Pictures and Database

Please post your case number to help with data collection.

Thank you Don. Where do I post the numbers. I have two cases. One model A with shoulders and one Wadsworth that looks like a Hamilton case but may belong to another brand as it starts with a J.

I will post them here and I will follow the links to see if I can give them there.

Model A with shoulders is 1310459 and the Wadsworth is Case 2 with J305229 number

Harry, I have a chart that I got from another site which shows the factory case models used on the 992, 950 and 996 from 1925 through 1957. The data was taken from the Hamilton price lists and according to that, the 992B was listed with cases 2,10 and 11 in 1940 through 1942. The "A" case was listed on the 992B starting in 1946 and continuing at least to 1957. The "A" case was listed on the 950E in 1940 and on the 950B in 1941 and 1949 through 1957. There is no mention of with or without shoulders for the "A". I can't vouch for the accuracy of this information except that I do have a copy of the 1942 price list and it does show only the models 2, 10 and 11 for the 992B.

Thank you Robert,

I keep seeing the model 11 case pop up in my research and now in yours so the model 11 is probably correct for sure. But I thought the model 2 and 10 for that matter were cases for previous years.

Did Hamilton keep offering case models for a number of years after they were first introduced?

Harry you are correct that the 2 and 10 were used previous to 1940. The 2 was first used in 1926 on the 992, 996 and 950 and then was offered on various versions of the 992 and 950 (not on the 950E) continuously (except during WWII) until 1954. The 10 was first offered in 1936 on the 992E and 950 and then in 1940 on the 992B. So Hamilton did offer many cases for several years but there were others like the 4, 12 and 14 that were only used for a year or two.
