My Latest Acquisition - Model 1883 Waltham P.S. Bartlett "Click" to Login or Register
posted
Hello everybody;

I hope you folks don't mind these entries as I buy a watch, but it's a lot more fun buying when you can show some like minded people what you have. So, that being said, here's my latest find.

It's an 18s Model 1883 Waltham, P.S. Bartlett, 15 jewels and in a beautiful hunter case. It's not a particularly old watch, but the condition is absolutely superb for its age. Somewhere between November 1, 1890 and September 30, 1891, some ten months and numbered from 4659001 to 4661000 and if I'm figuring it correctly, that's a total of only 1, 999 pieces. Please correct me if I'm wrong about this. Serial No. is: 4660110

So, here's a few photos of my latest find.

Nice watch Bud. That's called a "pie crust" case.

Best Regards,

Good looking watch and case, Bud....

From 5/1/1890 till 6/30/1896 there were 45 runs made of this variation with a total of 48,200 watches made....

Nice find....

Jerry

Thanks Ed, I didn't know that. I can guess why though, makes sense right?

I think so too Ed K. It looked pretty nice when I first saw it and of course, just HAD to have it.

Jerry, can you tell me where you found this information? I'd like to find more info about Waltham.
If you know of another good source could you share it with me?

Many thanks for all your thoughts guys, I really appreciate them. It helps me to learn a lot.

We love seeing new finds!
Beautiful HC watch in very nice condition.
I havent seen too many HC PS Bartletts.
Very nice pictures also.
What kind of camera do you use to get such wonderful pictures?

Thanks very much Michael, glad you like the watch.

I have three Sony Camera but I like using the Sony DSC828 best. It's a few years old now but still a great digital camera. It's an 8 megapixel to which I find perfectly adequate for what I shoot. Of course the key to any "good shot" with a camera is light, and stability. If you have those two things, almost any digital camera will get you great photos.

Thanks for asking Michael,

Bud

Bud I can't speak for everyone but I never mind seeing people post pictures of watches, no matter what jewel count since that only helps visually for future collectors who might be looking for the same type of watch. Good pictures say a 1000 words, I think it has been mentioned before about having a location for Waltham, Elgins, Illinois and others and break it down by grade or type and allow people to upload pictures. To me that would be a nice feature, especially for people just coming into the hobby. Whoever posts can comment what is correct or incorrect, what serial number range this grade or variation occured in, just bits of information that is helpful for future collectors, along with the people like me that know a little about some brands but even less about others.

Claude an easy way to do that would be to setup a wiki. Its not hard and the scripting could be had for free that Wikipedia uses, which also has great instructions for setup. http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/MediaWiki
