Attached are pictures of a 12 size Hampden Dueber Grand Model 3 Lever Set with a replacement metal dial and case.

What is so unusual about this watch is that it is one of the first reported examples of a 12 size Model 3 Lever Set Dueber Grand. Production is probably between 300 and 1200.It is the the scarcest 12 size Dueber Grand produced.

The dial has a mirror finish and has a raised star around the center wheel and 4th wheel pinon.

The Hampden logo on the metal dial is one that tends to be found on the Model 3 12 size Hampdens with enamel dials. The only other gold metal Hampden dial ( the numbers and logo were the same gold color as the dial) I have seen was on another 12 size Model 3 Hampden.

One of the things that I think is so neat about Hampdens is that they are the only American made 12 size watches that were lever set.

If anyone has a 12 size Model 3 lever set Dueber Hampden or a Hampden with a gold colored metal dial would you please let me know.

The pictures don't do justice to the mirror finish on the dial or the wonderful damaskeening and mirror finish on the movement

The watch is a 12 size pin/nail set Dueber Grand. For reasons that I don't understand most examples of this watch I have seen have badly worn Dueber gold filled cases. Other Dueber Grand Style cases housing pendant and lever set movements are often in better shape. If anyone has any theories why I would welcome them.

UPDATE
When I got the watch I found it was in too thin a case and a circle was inscribed on the inside cover due to the mounting screws rubbing against the case.

Although Hampden said their watches were 12 size the earlier ones don't fit a standard 12 size case. This was a way for Hampden to force the buyer to use a Dueber case.
