Hi all
I have a Cyma pocket watch, I have had it for a while now, but it has been lying in a box with a broken balance staff until now, I decided to get it up and running again, so I did, the balance staff is still broken but I got it going with a shim under the balance staff.
Anyway, ive always assumed that it is a military pocket watch (A77 on case back and radium numbers and hands) and I was hoping you guys could tell me if I assumed correctly and tell me anything about it.
It is in relatively good condition (except for the broken balance staff and a ding on the case back), It is keeping quite good time (for a watch with a broken balance staff).
Under the balance it says REF.971, the 971 I assume is the cal. There is noting that I could find on the internet about it. I have no idea when it was made, it doesnt have a serial number on it, except on the case back (18927424115).

Best regards
Francesco

A shim under the balance staff?? How in the world did you do that? And it's running too!

Well I made a sort of wedge that makes the balance cock lean downwards instead of being parallel with the main plate.

Okay, I see - pretty tricky!
I like that old Cyma.

An interesting watch. I would assume it is military but I cannot say for sure which nation used it. It appears to be of WWII vintage. But there are no broad arrow marks or other military ownership marks that I know of. There are Cyma pocket watches around with British G.S.T.P. marks on the back. But the G.S.T.P. Cyma watches I have seen had 15 jewels and your example has 7.

BTW, around the time of WWII, South Africa used a mark consisting of a capitol letter U with a broad arrow inside of it.
