RAAF issue "Mervins" "Click" to Login or Register
posted
While going through some RAAF correspondence on watch requirements in 1943 the following statement is made in a policy dicussion document.

Type G6B/159. If these not available, to be given first preference with Watches various (centre second hand) e.g. Mervins - now in stock

To explain a little, the RAAF found that they were being supplied with watches identified as 6B/159 that did not meet the performance requirements as laid down in AP1275. What they appear to have decided is that Longines manufactured watches were considered to be G6B/159. Omega supplied watches we also treated differently, by being given a prefix letter. Anything else was given another Reference number which appears to be 6B/3111 (Watches, navigation, sweep seconds various). This was partly to do with the corrision resistance of the cases.

"Mervins" would appear to full in this category.

So does anyone what a "Mervin" is, and what they looked like?
