John J. Flahive IIIShock Absorber for 4992B Box
Does anyone know where to get this shock absorber material for 4992B boxes? I'm not even sure what material it is made of or what it is officially called. Trying to refinish a box and just need to find this shock absorber material.
Thanks,
John III

Paul ReganHello all,
I recently made these two 4992B boxes. I used closed cell foam that can be bought on EBay.
The one in the center is the original.

Steve MiddlesworthPaul,
I downloaded an app for my iPad called "Image Size" that works quite well. I size my pictures to around 600 X 480 and they upload find.

John J. Flahive IIIThanks for everyone's input. I bought 100' of 1/4" closed cell foam backer rod on the internet. It came today and was easy to cut into short lengths to act as shock absorbers on the box that Nicholas and I refinished. The backer rod is $0.06/foot. We just friction fit the pieces in for now, but they seem to be very stable.
To attach the wood pieces to the upper and lower box lids I used 3/8" foam window insulation which comes in a roll that is tacky on one side. We used a thin film of wood glue on the other side. It gives just the right amount of cushion when the box is closed.
The watch is a 3992B that I bought on ha.com recently.

Thanks for inquiring, Paul

Paul ReganThanks for the kind words Bob. I still have not finished the third one. I may finish the interior in the more traditional way.
