In addition to my recent posts regarding military tiempieces which are over 100 years old I want to share another beauty used as a deck/command/observer watch by the Kaiserliche Marine (Imperial German Navy) in WW1. Like the other one I presented https://ihc185.infopop.cc/eve/...0103944/m/3423988897 this big Swiss made piece is very solid and with 198 grams quite heavy. On the undamaged white enamel dial the very nice German watch maker signature "A. Schuchmann Wilhelmshaven". Albin Schuchmann from the city of Wilhelmshaven was famous for his ships clocks made by Gustav Becker (Silesia) for the German Navy in WW1. He also made ships clocks for the Reichsmarine in the 1920s and delivered Isgus made (Villingen-Schwenningen in Baden-Württemberg) big timers for the Kriegsmarine in WW2. The case of the watch here has two hinged backs and is not silver made, but argentan. Setting time with the help of the small pusher and then moving the crown. That was just made from 1880 until 1920 with all these antique pocket watches as you know probably. The movement is made by Doxa. The brand was founded in 1889 by Georges Ducommun in Le Locle. Very interesting are the export hallmarks on the inner dust cover: "MEDAILLE D'OR MILAN 1906" (Doxa won a price on the world exhibition 1906), "DOXA" and "LIÈGE 1905" (Doxa participate on the world exhibition 1905). On the back the impressive hand engraved German Imperial crown and unterneath the big letter "M" for "Marine" (Navy). I have never seen a second piece like this - what an outstanding piece of history! Regards, Florian ![]() | |||
