Adjustments in Aircraft clocks
I am working on an eight day Waltham aircraft clock for a friend. The movement in marked "3 Adj."

Dial up and dial down would be useless in an aircraft, since those positions would only be achieved when the aircraft is going straight up or straight down. If you are piloting an aircraft in either of those positions, and take the time to look at the clock, you are, to quote Rudyard Kipling, " ... a better man than I ..."

Given that, and since there is no pendant, I assume position 1 is vertical, with 12 o'clock up. And I guess the next position would be for inverted flight (vertical with 6 o'clock up)? Does anyone know for certain what three positions should be used for these clocks?

After some email and phone discussions with members of the Horological Association of Maryland (HAM) and a couple of other watch and clock friends, the general consensus of opinion is that "3 adj" in these little 8 day clocks refers to hot, cold, and isochronism, but not to any positional adjustments.
