This wrist chronograph is said to have been awarded to a German athlete in 1941. Kreigsjahr means war-year. Germany had been at war since 1939, and 1941 was a pivotal war year; with the German invasion of the Soviet Union that summer and the German declaration of war upon the United States following Japan’s December 7, 1941 attack on Pearl Harbor. For these reasons, this watch appears to be a fairly significant award, given that expensive chronographs were usually issued only to pilots and other essential personal. | ||
