Zenith Chronometer Vail Watch Co. Seth Thomas Boxs "Click" to Login or Register
posted
This chronometer has been locked in a vault for the at least the last 20 years, maybe more? It came from a family owned jewelry store that is now being closed. I would like to find out some information about it. It is in beautiful condition. Interestingly, the face says Zenith but when opened the back says Vail Watch Co. To the left of the "Jewel" engraving the number has been scratched out and to the right the number "15" looks to have been hand engraved. The serial number shows 202852 but I can find no information as to when this chronometer may have been manufactured. The outer box says "Instrument and Carrying Cases Made By Seth Thomas Clocks Thomaston Conn". I would love to know more but cant hardly find any info other than these may have been imported by Vail and then upgraded to Navy standards. I can't find any info on how much the chronometer or the cases may be valued at. Any help or information would greatly be appreciated. Thank You. Jason

many makes of car clocks or boat clocks were in circulation, and since there was a shortage at the start of the war of deck watches and chronometers,Vail got a contract to up-jewel these movements and put them in gimbaled boxes for sea service or army service,
