Tall clock ID? "Click" to Login or Register
posted
First, I'd like to thank everyone for the help with my Illinois "Hoyt" pocket watch. I mentioned that I had some other things I'd like to learn more about. Here's one:

I have tall case clock that stands a shade over 8 feet including the uppermost finial. The face is marked "A. Stowell & Co. Boston". I'm guessing Stowell was either the importer or retailer. The mechanism carries the number "167659", a plate attached with screws stamped with the letter "S", and a stamped image of what I think is a building with the legend "MONASTERY", and "Germany".

I'd like to know an approximate date of manufacture, if possible. Also, would the movement have been installed in a case made here, or would the case come from the same place as the movement?

The moon phase mechanism is present, but I can't figure out why it doesn't work. The moon dial rotates easily, and has a ratchet to allow it to only rotate in one direction.

Also, for my own curiosity and insurance purposes, what would a ballpark value be?

By the way, it keeps good time, only dropping about a minute over 2 weeks. A winding keeps it ticking for 8 1/2 days, though I wind it every Monday. If I forget, the silence is deafening.

Thanks for any information anyone can offer,

Frank Brower

I would think the info you need is on the movement. If nothing else the clock experts would need photos of the movement.
