Here is a postcard of City Hall, Calgary about the time it was built in 1911. My father was born in Scotland in 1908, and my grandfather, Frederick decided to emigrate to Canada he left Elgin, Scotland and was traveling across Canada by train planning on settling on the West Coast in Vancouver. He was employed as a city clerk in Elgin, and in route he stopped overnight in Calgary the City Hall had just been finished and they were hiring so that ended his plans of continuing to the West Coast. My grandmother, uncle Fred, and my father came later that year, after visiting her relatives in Brussels, Belgium. I have never met my grandfather he passed away in 1940. He had a very successful career with the city of Calgary, becoming Assistant City Treasurer in 1924, and City Treasurer in 1928.

The Clock was installed by D.E. Black a local CPR, and CNR Watch Inspector and jeweler. I have a copy of his quote for installing the clock around here somewhere, and will post it when I find it.

Norman somewhere in my files I have the original quote D.E. Black proposed to the City of Calgary for the installation of the clock. It is quite detailed and has information on the size and weight of the bell. I will post it when I find the file. Thank you Tom for your kind remarks, I have one other clock to post when I find the information. It is a Howard that was manufactured in 1907.
