There were several variations of this Plato Clock made by Ansonia. Offered in 1907, it was called the "Ever Ready" clock. The movement is in the bottom of the case. On the hour, the bottom portion reads "O'Clock". I got this one at an auction today, and it does need some cleaning up. There are other models of the Plato Clock. Please post your examples, or other "flip" clocks. Tom

The movement. Notice the little hands that allow the card to pass, but not to turn back. Tom

Tom, Didn't the Horolovar Company sell reproductions of these in the 1960s? They sold the flying ball, mouse ran up the clock, and other types of unusual clocks. The ones they sold were called reproductions, and now they sell for a lot too. Andy So many clocks, so little time.

Andy, I am not sure about a repro of this one. I have the Ignatz (flying ball) repro, and have seen plenty of the mouse clocks, but don't recall this one. Maybe someone out there has more info to share. Tom

Tom, This is a picture of some of the repros that Horolovar made. There was also the Hickory Dickory clock that is not pictured. This picture was found at the following website, and there are more pictures of these clocks. Click on the picture at #249. http://www.burchardgalleries.com/auctions/2004/sep1904/at_full_catalog_page5.htm Andy
