I have a chelsea banjo clock with a ship's bell movement and gong. The gong sounds terrible. Just a thud. Can I do something about this? Thanks for your help.

The hammer may be to close to the gong. You should be able to, very carefully, adjust the distance of the hammer from the gong by bending the metal wire that supports the head of the hammer.
