PARTS JUNK BOX ILLINOIS
This one came from the parts junk bin. I bought a box of Illinois parts movement’s dials and other stuff at Dearborn. I just last weekend got a chance to go through it and found everything I needed to make this parts junk box Illinois. The 15-jewel movement needed a staff, mainspring; setting parts, cannon pinion and hour wheel. The dial is as found and the case was there as well. The hands (not correct) were also in the box.
Last week I did the staff job and got the movement sorted out. I cased and timed it this morning. It is pictured without the crystal a friend is sending me a new glass one and I will install it when it gets here. All the parts I needed (except the staff, stem and crown) came from the Dearborn purchase. I do enjoy getting a complete running watch out of junk.

Rich,

Great find and congratulations on bringing it back to life. I believe that's the Illinois "Canby", and while not terribly rare, it's always impressive because of it's size. The black dial is also a nice touch. I love finding unexpected treasures like that.

Regards,

Cary

Richie,

Looks nice! Have you ever tried Evapo-Rust for the steel parts that are discolored? I'll send you a more challenging pile of junk to play with (or probably throw out). Big Grin

Thank you Cary and Roy I have a couple more Illinois that I will be working on (I think I have the parts now) when I am done I will post the pics.
Cary I think you are right however the dial was re-done (long ago) but since it is for me I can live with it.
