The Elgin dial looks like a repro but i am no expert, it just looks a little too fancy for the millitary.Just my thoughts on it.

Hi Samie:

I believe your Elgin to be authentic. I've seen that watch before and understand that Elgin produced it in honor of General "Black Jack" Pershing. Indeed, I believe your watch was even called the Elgin "Pershing" but I could be mistaken about the official name.

From what I understand, this watch was created to honor General Pershing for his success in his Mexican campaign as well as his WWI European campaigns. The last one I saw was also a 7 jewel 3/0 movement (although the dealer had it marked as 4/0 but this could have been a mistake on his part) and was cased in a steel case. The dial is undoubtedly original black porcelain.

It is a great watch. Wear it in health.

Regards,

Will
