Nice elgin

even if I say so myself! the bit with the numbers is the metal of the bezel, which I've not seen on another watch of the period.

Stephen, I really like that Elgin. I have never seen a case like that before. I'm glad you brought it out of hiding for all to admire. Can you tell us more about this beauty?(model, case, movement caliber, serial number)? Thanks.

Ronnie, looks like a cool watch to me. I had one of those mechanical crown operated bezels on a 1972 Seiko Navigator Timer. A word to the wise, dont't take it to the beach. Thanks for showing your watch.

Oddly, while (I think) this is one of the best watches Seiko ever made for accuracy,(<1 sec in 2 years) it is the one that "cured me" of battery watches when the battery went dead at Hong Kong A/P and I had to buy a new watch as there was NOBODY selling watch batteries!

David,

I'm sure you could have come up with a Replica Rolex much faster than a battery for your Seiko.
A Rolex would get you home, maybe! Roll Eyes

Today was the Elgin Touchdown 229. I refer to it as an Elgin Consul.

Here is the Elgin 229 beside a typical engraved Illinois Consul. Both cases were made in 1928-30 by Solidarity.
