The first shipments of 982 movements were made in April 1935. The 982M was introduced in September 1940, for watches in solid gold or platinum.

Rene,
Thanks for the information. As a follow up can you tell me which 14k Hamilton models were introduced with the 982M movement?

There's no easy answer there. In the 1930s Hamilton sold gold-filled watches with 980 and gold watches with 982. In 1940 they established a new policy whereby 10K gold-filled watches had 980, 14K gold-filled had 982, and gold or platinum watches had 982M. Since some styles were sold both prior and after that time, different movements can be found in the same case type -- e.g., the Rutledge had a 982 in the 1930s and a 982M in the 1940s.
