Illinois Size 12 Case mark question.
Am I right in assuming this case mark indicates solid gold? My info is based on 2006 Shugart page 35. Would it be 14K in the absence of a further mark?
Are there any other interpretations?

Thanks

Peter

Sorry Peter, but "Monarch" is a well-known model of 14K Gold-Filled 20-Year cases. Such model names as "Monarch" or "Montauk" are strong, practically certain indicators of a case not being solid-gold.

The "dog-bone" shape and "B.W.C.Co" denote the Brooklyn Watch Case Company usually with "Warranted U. S. Assay" and perhaps additional markings such as "14K" to indicate a solid-gold case.

It still looks like a nice octagon case design. Smile

Thanks Lindell.
There are no other markings on the watch to indicate solid or plate and Shugart does'nt identify further markings either. Strikes me as an odd coincidence!
