As a child growing up in Maine, I remember the last days of the Flying Yankee, a special train that was a joint venture between the Boston & Maine and Maine Central Railroads:

A contemporary of the CB&Q's Pioneer Zephyr, it was among the first of the diesel-electric streamliners, entering service in 1935 to provide high-speed passenger service between Boston, Massachusetts, Portland and Bangor, Maine. The Flying Yankee trainset was retired to a museum in 1957.

Anyway, the original trainset is now being restored to running condition, and is scheduled to debut on 4/1/2006, exactly 71 years after it first entered service. Cool
