On one of several trips to Great Britain to do some serious fly fishing for salmon, I was told about a railroad engineer who was an avid fisherman. His train at some point paralleled the famous Blackwater, a prime salmon fishing river flowing to the sea through Ireland. As the story goes, when the train approached one particular spot alongside the Blackwater, the engineer stopped the train, ran with his fly rod down to the river, made a few casts, and rushed back to the train with or without a salmon for supper. I didn't hear how long this practice continued, if true. | ||
