Could anyone describe for me the correct method of installing an "open loop" mainspring. (If it is different from a normal loop end

Greg ReevesIt still should just slip over the post as a normal loop end would. Having said that...there have been occasions(an alarm clock), where I started the tongue over the post, and when the plates were secured after assymbly...that I then wound the mainspring and the tongue and loop would then slip over the post to the correct position.

Clive DriscollThe real benefit of the open loop is that it sometimes (not always) can be wound directly onto the arbor without having to strip down the movement.
I find the hardeat job can be trying to get the broke spring out.....without stripping down the clock.
