How does one go about cleaning this metal (?) Hamilton dial?
Having used the Polident soak successfully on a number of enamel dials, I also know how destructive it can be on painted ones (don't ask!)

Can anyone tell me what kind of dial this is? And how best to go about cleaning it?

Also this one. As you can see, similar style dial but looks like more metal showing on this one.

Nice dial.
Previous posts say warm soap water, easy to destroy.
Sorry no help here.

I usually just carefully wipe metal dials with some rodico, to pick up loose dirt. Often, anything that you do makes them look worse.

I guess the bottom line is, be very gentle.

So both of these are metal? Painted?

Bob,
Yes, I think both are painted metal dials.
I tried a damaged painted dial in the ultrasonic, and it took most of the paint off. It was already no good so I had nothing to lose.

Rodico and gentle wash, is the way to go.

Thanks guys - that's what I was looking for. Already had to buy a new dial for a 4992B after I messed up the cleaning.... live and learn Smile

Bob: At the top of the page click on the find or search tab, then enter dial cleaning. You will find a lot of info there. Gary
