Frank here is the South Bend I would like to find its dial is marked "Canadian Northern Special" on a Grade 347 I've Seen one example in Roy Erhardt's Price Indicator.

Frank here is the dial on my favorite 16 size South Bends and is a 24-hour dial with South Bend in block letters.

here is the grade 227 movement on this watch. It looks in fairly decent condition

That Canadian South Bend Dial is very nice. I've only ever seen three that I can remember. But you've really piqued my interest... have you ever seen a Canadian private label marked South Bend movement?

Frank I have never seen any Canadian private label South Bend movements, I will keep my eye out for any and will let you know if one shows up.

Fort Macleod is located 30 miles west of Lethbridge it was a established as a Fort of the North West Mounted Police and trading post in 1874. It became an important junction on the CPR's Crowsnest line having access to Calgary 90 miles to the north. Its present population is about 3000, and its most famous citizen would be Joni Mitchell. The station shown on this postcard view burnt down in the early 1960s, there was a rumor that the engineer working down there lost his personal belongings and pocket watch in the fire. At our last pensioners luncheon I asked Gordon if the story was true, he told me no that the watch was fine sitting in his pocket at the beer parlor and about lunchtime when the fire broke out, he was working an afternoon yard engine, so the only thing he lost where his old coveralls that were hanging in the station.

Here is a picture of the dial on my Fort Macleod private-label it is marked "WM. C. LIPHARDT MACLEOD, ALTA" the dial is single sunk with upright Arabic numerals 1 to 12 and radial numerals 13 to 24.

Great thread.Nice Fort McLeod watch. I have 2 sets of antique handcuffs that were found in the jail under the floorboards when they tore down the old fort.Now I will have to find a watch to match.

It turns out Robert McDonald was a local hotelier who owned the Yale Hotel in Vancouver. He had bought the Windsor Hotel in Edmonton in 1911 and changed it to the Hotel Selkirk which was one of the most popular hotels in Edmonton. Long gone now but there is a replica built from the original blue prints which stands in Fort Edmonton Park.

The first sternwheeler built and launched from the landing was the Hudson Bay Company's SS ATHABASCA. 1888.

In 1889, Athabasca Landing had a permanent population of about five or six people who ran the HBC post.

Your double sunk Elgin from Robert McDonald, Vancouver B.C. is interesting only having a 12 hour dial, may be used for inter-urban servers in Vancouver. Nice Elgin finger bridge movement Serial No. 20370799.Elgin site shows as Grade 382 manufactured circa 1917.interesting single sunk 24-hour dial marked Jackson Bros Edmonton, Alta. Tim at the time this Elgin was manufactured in 1894 Edmonton was part of the North West Territories (N.W.T.) As you can see in some of my earlier posts Alberta and Saskatchewan became provinces in 1905 so the dial is much later than the movement. All in all you have a very nice collection of early Western Canadian private labels, I especially like your Hamilton. nice commemorative of Athabasca dial on your Seth Thomas movement.
