When Woodrow Wilson was president during World War I , Congress passed the Adamson Act in 1916, a United States Federal Law that established an eight hour workday, with additional pay for overtime work, for interstate railroad workers. The terms that were embodied in the act were negotiated by a committee of the four railroad labor brotherhoods of engineers, firemen, brakemen and conductors, chaired by Austin B Garretson. Pres. of the Order of Railway Conductors. This B of RT ribbon commemorates it on Labor Day 1916, Lodge 24 is in Galesburg, Illinois.
