This watch dates to 1787, and was made by John Symonds of Reepham (pronounced Reefam). It is of course a verge fusee, with a bulls eye crystal and beatle and poker hands. Baillie shows Symonds working in 1784 but he screwed up the town name. Symonds is mentioned in the AHI journal. The inner case and the outer case have identical hallmarks. The hallmarks are a crowned leopard's head for London, an m for 1787, the lion passant for sterling silver and the duty mark, the head of George III, our favorite British monarch. The makers mark is EH incuse, with a fleur de lis above the letters. EH is Edlin Howard who registered his mark in Dec. 1772 and was still working in 1788. This duty mark ran from 1786 to 1796. I like English watches, and this one was fun to research.
