Paul ArsenaultHow to clean a clogged K&D punch
A few months ago i purchased a K&D 600 staking set. Upon close inspection with a loop i noticed several of the punches are clogged. Possibly with proken pivots. What is the best way to get the holes cleaned out? Thanks Paul

Bob MurrayPaul -
Put the punches in an ultrasonic cleaner first. This should clean out anything that isn't a jammed-in pivot, and may loosen broken pivots as well. If you have a lathe, you can use pivot drills just smaller than the hole in the punch, with a large drop of cutting oil, or a carbide dental bur with oil. I like pipe threading oil from the hardware store or "Tap-Matic" for cutting the tougher steels. If that doesn't work, Dashto and other used equipment dealers sell individual punches.

Bob
