The Studebaker, Grade 223
I recently picked up a South Bend on my wish list: a 16s, 17 Jewel Grade 223 marked "The Studebaker". The serial number is 578795. I'm not sure if the dial and case are original, but I don't see any other case marks. It is not running currently (all wound up) so it needs a cleaning. But overall I'm pleased with this one.

Case markings. It appears to be a South Bend case.

A very nice watch. I love those. Usually the parts just drop back together after you clean them. I also like the SB Grade 227 and 217, which are structurally basically identical. The real heir of "The Studebaker" and the Grade 295 was the popular 229/227/223/217 group of watches which sold a respectable 75k worth of watches in their lifetime.
