Could someone tell me how to open the barrel of a 1892 Waltham 23 jewel pocket watch. I notice what appear to be threads around part of the arbor & I am not sure how to seperate the two halves othe barrel so I can clean the watch.

Thanks
Tom

Tom,
Put the ratchet wheel on the arbor, (you don't need to screw it on). While holding the m/s barrel in one hand, turn the ratchet wheel counter clockwise with the other hand. It should unscrew.
