Self winding wristwatch question "Click" to Login or Register

I've only recently gotten into wristwatches and have bought a few. I have a 1953 Bulova mans automatic grade 10csc, 17 jewels, not running, but in great looking condition. I was fiddling with it last night and discovered if I held slight counterclockwise pressure on the crown when pulled out to setting position the watch would run. Is this typical? I know you can make a conventional wind watch run by holding pressure on the crown.
