I have a 16s, 17j, Elgin I am putting back together.
I have noticed that the fork snaps to the right. When I use a tool to try to center it, the fork snaps back to the right again. No load at all.
Very good back spin. Whats up?

William,
I checked it for magnetism and it had none. I put a compass up to it and no reaction. But I Went ahead and put it in the tunnel and then checked the fork and it works fine. I must have been the fork only that was magnetized. Therefore from now on I will place them in the tunnel instead of trusting a compass.
Thank you for your suggestion.
Patrick
