Help with a few crystal numbers please. "Click" to Login or Register

Hello,

My GS books recently (accidentally) got sent to the dump. If anyone has a few minutes, could you please let me know the GS numbers for the following crystals. New books should be here in a week or 2, but I can't wait that long. Big Grin

Adam,

I think the Tonneau is Y-880. That's from recent memory. I'll try to look up the others in the morning.

Please publish the numbers here of the more popular 1930's Hamiltons - the 4 noted above plus e.g. Cushion-form, Grant, Barrel, Raleigh, and similar if available.

Adam,
I had minimal luck finding these numbers. They are early enough that I think the replacement crystals were obsolete when GS was picking up steam (i.e.-attempting to carry a replacement for all models). Their later issued crystals will likely have had sidewalls anyway.

The 1937 BB Crystal Co. catalog lists the following glass replacements:
Greenwich-Q2135
Hasting -Q2310
Tonneau -Y2625
Square cut corner -Q2320

I guessed the "cut corner" is not what you're looking for but, just in case, the 1930 GS lists a Hamilton sq. cut corner 23.4 X 23.4 as Q137

The 1941 GS lists two Hamilton squares with rounded corners as:
Q410-23.1 X 23.1
Q415-23.2 X 23.2

That is all I could find easily.

You could, of course, have glass cut for a nominal fee. Personally, I would prefer a neat job done in glass than a newer GS lucite one that had the sidewalls. Working through catalogs of the various companies, and their evolutionary shifts, can be a lot of exercise. It is a little late for a single unifying (Esperanto) version of all the crystals made, so I tend to grab all the old catalogs and supplements I can find.

I use Murphy's. The will hand cut, polish and install a glass or mineral glass crystal. Perfect every time. PERFECT. I usually send the bezel to them. 10 days later, I get it back with a perfect crystal. Sometimes I order 2 so I have a spare.

My sense is it is under 30 dollars.

The phone # is the same so the mystery shouldn't take too long to resolve. Thirty bucks seems a little high to me. I haven't seen the results from Murphy's to compare with Otto Frei's, who charge 14- to cut glass, and I don't know what Frei's tacks on for postage.

Hi Rick,
My phone book says 510-832-0355 but the email is also given www.ottofrei.com . Nice people, I've been shopping there since 1985.
