This "broken pivot" Elgin I'm working on....I'm getting ready to put it back into it's case and I notice several "repair marks" on the inside of the back cover...has anyone ever figured out how to translate these numbers into something understandable to folks other than the guy who put them there in the first place?...here's a group of three, one right under the other.....4316126, 29785, and 33747...else where are...838LH, 30516B, 14095PD, and 2734X...seems this watch has seen a lot of service and repair...any opinions?

Watchmaker's repair markings are the choice of the individual watchmaker, and can take many forms. Some use their invoice numbers, with or without their initials, some use a dating system and their initials, other use a number that can be assigned by AWCI upon request. The scratch marks were put there so that a watchmaker could quicky tell if:
1, He had worked on the movement before, and
2. If he had, when he worked on it, so he could tell what work was performed.
