I have an escape wheel with a broken pivot on the short side of the arbor. Parts for Mercers are not available. Can this be repaired, or do I have to find someone to make a whole new wheel with the arbor and pinion?

I would think it could be repaired, but as usual, a picture would be most helpful for a more conclusive opinion.

In any event, making an escape wheel is extremely difficult. Even in a worst-case scenario, I'd think a new pinion would be all that would be necessary.

Perry: According to Mercer's book, your chronometer dates to 1940.

Jerry,

Great.

Any idea on what kind of ship used it?

Very best regards,
