Illinois "Getty" click spring
I need a little advice about replacing a click spring on a 16s Illinois "Getty" model. The spring is under the top plate in a recessed area and is covered by what looks like a small circular brass plate. This plate doesn`t budge using gentle prying pressure. I don`t want to try and force it unless I am certain this is the appropriate route. How do I get to the click spring?

Thanks for any input.

I just checked one of my parts movements, and that brass plate just pries up, but it is pretty tight. Do it carefully so you don't mar the plates. Let us know if you need pictures or more info.

Thanks Jerry, I removed the brass cap by wedging it open using a screwdriver tip and tapping on the screwdriver end. The click spring doesn`t seem to be broken or distorted but is not in the proper position. Looks like it is going to be a headache to get back in position. Just can`t get it to stay on the click pin.

Kenny, perhaps your spring is bent or is the wrong one? Attached is a photo of my example, and the spring stays in on its own. One hooked end (A) sets against the pin on the click and the other hooked end (B) sets into a notch in the edge of the recess. The cap then holds it all in place.

My spring is the correct one. It is a little bent out of shape. The end where the click pin rests is more like a straight 45 degree angle where it should be more circular I believe.
I will try and reshape it some but I know it will be brittle and likely break unless I anneal it. Then it will loose some of it`s spring.
I have some steel spring wire of various thicknesses. I may just fashion a new one. This ia probably my best bet, short of buying a NOS spring. Will post back with my outcome when I have time to work with it.
