Tool Lesson - What are these for?? Do you know?
Hello:

A friend gave me some tools yesterday. They are associated with watch repair. I'm hoping that some one can enlighten me and others on their uses. Here Goes....

#1 - Set of small un-threaded collets. What are they used for?

#2 - No idea what this for, but it comes with concave pushers...

#3 - Set of jewelling tools. One box says Jewel Open, the other box says jewel close...

Thank you!

The first pic is jewelling chucks. The third pic is of bezel set jewel openers and closers. I am not quite sure of the second picture.

Will keep my eye out, you see the odd set going through ebay for about $70-$90 for a complete set in good condition, many are damaged or the most used parts missing!.

Maybe Grant can be parted from his set?
is the center pin intact?

On page 145-147 of Fried's "Bench Practices" there's some info on how to use these tools. The lathe method is the best, but these old tools in experienced hands get the job done quickly and usually efficiently. If you don't have "Bench Practices" I would recommend getting it, it's the companion volume to "Watch Repairer's Manual" and even better IMHO.

Best,
