Where is the best place to get mainsprings? I am only ordering the one of this and one of that. I dont nees a bunch of them. Also does anybody have a list of crossover springs so I can look my own up? Thanks, Aaron Aaron

Aaron: The big Swartchild's catalog from 1951 has an extensive mainspring section. Also, the Chicago Watchmaking School books contain a handy part number list with the various sizes, strengths, and end types. Often times you'll need to measure the spring and find one that is not an exact match but as close as possible. Occasionally you'll even have to punch holes in them and will probably need the tool for doing so. If you post that you're looking for these resources I'm sure that someone will have a spare. Good luck. B

Aaron, E&J Swiggart's Illustrated Manual of American Watch Movements has a great section on mainspring materials. It is available as a reprint from S. LaRose(Item 055002 $12.95). Their web site ain't great but a call will get a catalog. I'm not to crazy about their brand of mainsprings. Jules Borel and Co has a good selection and they sell Best-fit mainsprings ($5.20 ea or $3.90 ea for 4 or more) Frei and Borel also has a good selection and they are in Oakland, Ca. I have not ordered from them, but have known others who have. hope this is helpful Mike Miller

Aaron, You might try Tom Mister at Dashto. I believe he has them at around $4 ea. He has white alloy in most common brands and sizes and sometimes nos blue steel. DASHTO Kenny
