Longines balance staff id "Click" to Login or Register
posted
Hi Hi
This is my first post in this part of the site. I normally dont work on or collect anything but american pocket watches. But a collector who I help sent me a Longines 12s 17j serial #3849263 to try and fix. It has a broken balance staff.
The watch looks real nice and I should be able to replace the staff. But if there are any real differences between it and american movements please let me know.
Right now I need help at least with a part number and perhaps if someone knows a good place to get one.

Thanks in advance.

Jim

Sorry about the bad picture, but my cameras battery died after taking this one. If a better one is needed ill replace it after the battery charges.

Im not sure if its a model number, but on the main plate near the balance it says 17 in larger print and then 79ABC in smaller print. It might be one number, because the area is quite small the print size might be to fit it in.

Here is a better photo

Hi I believe the movement # is 17.79ABC, and the staff # is a Bestfit 200 # 513.(200/513) I am sorry I do not have that staff.

i just had a read in the bestfit swiss catalogue it says that the staff for the 17.79abc is the 501, interchangeable with 17.80-17.89-17.79 abc models only.... the 513 is for the 18.79...Sorry Jim i do not have any 501 staffs.

Thank you both for the info and for checking to see if you have the staff. At least now I know what to look for.

I came across a site that gives a different number.

Rn914 for a Longines 17.79. I think thats a Ronda number not a bestfit.

Is the abc necessarily in the model number?

Hi Jim the longines 17.79 takes a different staff than the 17.79ABC a 512 instead of a 513.
512 Dimensions 443/219/131/81/54
513 Dimensions 375/174/130/80/55
