Can anyone help with a maker for this movement please? The dial shows 'Swiss Made' and the case carries the three bears Swiss Hallmark of pre-1907. Any thoughts appreciated, thank you.
Regards
Douglas

Hi Douglas

That's a very nice and early Chronograph, pre 1900
(I would date it close to 1890)

I would like to see a picture of the dial if possible.

The movement is very likely made by A(lfred) Lugrin (not get confused with the 'american' A. Lugrin ;that's a different person). Made by him or from a close connected manufacturer like Bourquin.

Jules Frederic Lugrin (called Alfred Lugrin) was born 1858 Le Lieu, switzerland. He was educated at LeCoultre and started his own business in 1884 LeSantier. 1886 he went to L'Orient and years later he was owner of the trademark 'Lemania'

He was an early specialist for chronographic attachments to other movements.
Those early times chronographs are kind of unique, you will hardly find two examples that are exact the same.
Your example was made for the british market, cause the british sports enthusiasts had a great demand for 'timing watches' and retailed by Smith's. They traded the swiss chronographs as cheaper alternative to the british made.
I think the watch has a 30 min register ?

Remarkable at the given watch (and indicator for an early make) is that the minute register is driven by an oscillating pinion by the mminute wheel. That means the minute register is not jumping like in later chrono's.

Gerald

Dear Gerald

Thank you so much for the information and below is a photo of the dial side of the watch. The reason for identifying the maker is an attempt to see if I can locate any spares... as you may be able to see in the movement photo, the 'pillar wheel jumper' is broken. I will probably have to make a new part but I would like to have a photo of a movement which shows the jumper complete to help in creating a pattern for a new part.

Regards

Doug

First a pdf - link to related movements (sorry only german)

A.Lugrin - Lemania
Very close movements were made for the german trader Dürrstein.
Hope I will find a picture of a similiar movement.
