Hi Tom,

The letter looks like lower case to me and, if so, your previous date of 1813 would be right since the 1773-1797 series are all upper case. Also, the 1813 cartouche shown in "Bradbury's" (from which the illustrations were taken) appears to be copied from a particularly worn stamp. All the other letters in the series show the same sharply defined "vee" base as the 1773-1797 series.

Finally got to read through your topic Tom, great find and a great job, Well Done!

I think Dick and I will have to agree to disagree over the year letter, I'm still sticking with 1787.
