Dating of Rotherhams PW
Hi Folks

Are there any Rotherhams databases showing manufacture date vs s/n.

I would like to know the approx manufacture date of the 15j s/n:275875. I know that Rotherhams closed down in 1930.

I have attached 3 pics.

It's reasonable to expect that a list was kept at some point for warranty repair purposes. But I have no information about the survival of such information.

It may be possible to date the watch from the maker's name under the dial or, maybe, from watch case date letter marks.

A rather handsome watch, well worth the effort.

Best regards,
Greg

If there are hallmarks on the inside of the case back and you can show us a good close-up picture we can probably date the case.

Gordon,

Had problems getting on-line recently as my old pc was ailing badly, consequently, all my contact details and Emails etc are still stuck in the wreckage.
Can you drop me a note so's I can get you into my address book please?

As far as I know, there are no databases for Rotherham's existing, they probably went into a skip when the company closed down - unless some forward thinking soul lodged the company records with a library to archive!

Difficult to date these exactly, but it looks to be a nice Pin set English lever watch, and with decent jewelling.
Not too many were jewelled to the centre wheel - even freesprung's.

My guess would be around 1900 give or take a decade!

I'm also guessing that the case is Gold plated copper, so it won't have hallmarks, and maybe no casemakers' marks either.

Hope this helps.

Best regards

John

Hi John, Greg & Ronald

The case is gold plated and hence no hallmarks.

John, I have sent you an email so you can put me into your address book again.
