Edward L. Parsons, Jr.Interesting group of ads Tom, thanks for posting. I noticed the next to last with the list of brotherhood standards, omits the Order of Railroad Telegraphers.
I have often heard it said that no Ball watches with O of RT markings were ever made, and this ad would appear to confirm that.
Best Regards,
Ed

Thanks for pointing that out, I hadn't noticed that but I do recall the posts from you & others about that.
Here is the same add but laid out different & maybe more readable. It is from The Railroad trainman

I also found this article in Railway Master Mechanic Published by Simmons-Boardman Pub. Corp., 1900 Item notes: v. 24
However, it does say there was a ORT.

Bill KappTom,
As late as the 1902 Catalog, we see ad copy of watch designs (note the wavy 3's) that should have been sold in previous years. Either they were saving on redrafting ads or had lots of unsold inventory.
You show Rockefeller capital investing in late 18th century and we know there was a major reorginization in 1902 with the advent of the Ball Watch co replacing Ball and Co. .
Note that not only does the ad feature a ORT but it also offers and officall 999 standard. Both movements have never been seen but we have seen an offical 999 standard dial on Ball Hamilton #603. It would seem these two models got lost in the cracks.
You say this is a 1900 ad?
Thanks,
Bill

Tom BrownThis page is from Official Gazette of the United States Patent Office 1906, this shows the patents on several Ball dials but not the one we were talking about.

Bill KappTom et al,
Ball also advertised nationaly for mail order items such as the Garfield spoon ad seen in July 1892 in Harpers and McBride's.
Must have sold a lot of them to make the ad worthwhile, if it was just a loss leader to get customers in the store he probably would have used local media.
Say what you want about ebay, but after I saw the ad, I started searching with keywords garfield spoon and found one fairly quickly. I can't imagine how long it would take me looking for it in old fashioned venues!

Keith KlimkowiczHi All
Today I held the stamping plate which produced the AD for the Ball Watches, which depicts the train puffing smoke with a watch in the background. The same AD that Tom Brown post several post above this one(count up 13 posts). Amazing!!!!!

Bill KappHi guys and gals,
Just found an 1899 BLE Journal Ad signed by Ball's Standard RR Watch co
BLE ADMy guess is that there was an initial thought that this company would market the Brotherhood watches along with the 999E and the 999F.
Fascinating stuff!
