Check out this dial repair!
What was this guy thinking? Took the time to prepare it, mix the epoxy, then forgot to line the seconds dial up straight. So I guess I'll be needing a better one. Any idea how rare or hard to find this "National Watch Co" dial is. I really like the watch, and it keeps excellent time. Any thoughts?

All's well that ends well! Although this watch is really nothing rare or exciting, I just like it. It really keeps good time but that dial repair really bothered me to the point that I wouldn't carry it. I posted a request in the "HOROLOGICAL ITEMS "WANTED TO BUY OR TRADE" section, and literally within a few minutes our member Tom Brown responded with an offer to supply the dial I needed. He even sent me dozens of photos of the dials I was interested in.

Well, I finally got to change out the dial this weekend and it looks great.

I also learned that the old dial I had was probably not period correct to the watch. The new one is more age appropriate.

This little example of people helping each other in this IHC185 is greatly appreciated by me and just another reason why I enjoy this club so much. Unselfish sharing of hard learned knowledge for the benefit of the less experienced hobbyist is what will insure the continuation of our quest for the preservation of these fine historical mechanical masterpieces.

I'm proud to be associated with such a fine group of guys and gals.

And now my trusty old Elgin can stand proudly with his close friends, wearing his new face without embarressment, and joining the regular rotation duty roster.

Thanks much for your help Tom.

Good going Charles. Sharing our knowledge and the stories of our watches is what IHC185 is all about. Wink
