Seconds hand not moving?

Have a Rockford 18s key wind that is playing tricks on me set it wound it with front bezel and crystal off everything went to ticking replaced bezel the seconds hand stops but the min. and hour hand continue,take off bezel seconds hand ticks away.Scrathing my head with both hands!!Roger

The suspect sounds to be a loose seconds hand that's fitting/riding/sitting a bit loose on the pinion

Hi Roger,

(Buster responded while I was composing. Similar conclusion in different words.)

What comes to mind is the dial might be slightly loose and closing down the bezel moves it however slightly. Push your finger nail or an unsharpened lead pencil on the dial to see if it moves. Along with that you might have a loose seconds hand that is then contacted by the dial moving. That would mean that with the bezel off the eraser end of that same unsharpened pencil could be used to carefully move the seconds hand forward and see if it is loose.

If all of this is correct, loosen then re-tighten the dial feet while holding down on the dial, do not over-tighten as that can crack your dial. And after that the seconds hand being a bit loose may not be a problem. Have the thickness if a piece of paper between the hand and the dial so it is not dragging. You want the seconds hand to be a little loose but not too much, if it is really tight you could run into problems of the watch stopping due contact with the hand.

These imprecise adjustments are done by "feel" and therefore not easy to explain.

Thanks Buster and Lindell the hand must have been loose.I"tweaked"it and now it is running and has been for 5mins.problem solved.You guys are the best.Thanks Roger
