An escapement question - De Long
Hallo again!
I purchased a beautiful Illinois 16 s A Lincoln today. After reading "the guide" some were made with De Long escapement.
What exactly is a De Long escapement? Do anybody has a photo maybe?

.....and thanks again Phil!
Best Regards!

Bernhard,

There is a great drawing of the DeLong Escapement on page 271 of the Vol # 22 C Shugart watch guide book , or page 273 of the Vol # 23 C Shugart book.

The best way way to determine the escapement type is to just look and see if the pallet fork has upright pallet jewels that resemble roller jewels in shape,i.e. round with a flat side like the picture shows.

The post you see immediately above this message is from the eminent Watch Expert Harold Visser a few months ago. The drawing shows the DeLong Escapement in great detail. as you can readily see the pallets are dramatically different.

Below, a side-by-side comparison from "The Complete Guide to WATCHES"...
