Phillip SanchezWhere has this watch been? Melamine dial in bad shape
It is curious as to where this watch has spent the last years for this melamine dial to be in this sad shape. The second hand had rotted off of the pinion, however the # 2 case is in fantastic shape with no watchmaker marks.

Claude GriffithProbably in sunlight with a cheap plastic crystal on it. The melamine appears to have the same problem other plastics have, too much sun and adios.

Phillip SanchezClaude it had a glass crystal, was wondering about moisture since the second hand had rusted off of the pinion? Movement dirty but not rusty.

Gary E. CochranI am thinking it was in a crate and stored in an attic or a storage shed where it was exposed to heat, cold and moisture...

David AbbeAgreed on the Heat-Cold thing. Looks the same as the result at our house in the early 1950's when my mother put some first generation Melmac (same cruddy plastic) plates in our "brand new" Dishwasher which used VERY Hot Steam to sanitize the contents. The Melmac plates cracked open like a rotten squash!
