Lorne WasylishenBook Purchase/Winter Reading
This lot is in the mail to me now, was it one of you clowns bidding me up?

Looks to be about 15, cost me $65 plus the vig.
Did I do OK?

Dave TurnerIt wasn't me and I'd say you got your money's worth!

David AbbeYou got your money's worth.
"American Pocket watches, Vol 1 Is one of the best references on a variety of Pocket watches.
"Rockford Watches" is valuable as one of the few that covers that rare breed.
"American Pocket Watches, Illinois Watch Co. is the "Blue Bible, for Illinois and sells for over $150.00 alone.
The Pocket Watch cases is a one of a kind book that is essential in researching many types of cases and case marks.
The above alone are worth upwards of $300.00

Lorne WasylishenYikes! thanks Dave(s). There was nothing else in the whole 540 lot online only auction that had anything to do with pocket watches.
There were actually only a couple of other bids.

Peter Kaszubskiyou did good Lorn as Dave mention above
"blue Bible I saw one for over $200 and the case book as well.

Edward L. Parsons, Jr.I concur Lorne, you got an excellent buy, but words on paper won't do you much good by themselves. You have to get the knowledge into you brain before you can benefit from it. So what's most important now is doing a lot of reading to get the book knowledge into you "little grey cells."
Best Regards,
Ed

Robert LetourneauLorne, you really scored. I only wish I would have stumbled onto that one...I would have given you a run for the money. Good for you! If you ever want to disperse the collection, I'll give everything you got in it and then some. Just a thought. Cheers! Robert

Lorne WasylishenThanks for the kudos however my home run just got called back as a ground rule double.
The invoice for shipping would indicate all that knowledge is pretty weighty as I did specify the slow boat to China rate. Either that or it will be hand carried and delivered by Zooey Deschanel.

Ken HabeebAfter Edward Parsons beat me about the ears to get a copy of the blessed 'blue bible,' I found one for $20 from my watchmaker mentor. He's not real profit motivated, otherwise I'm sure it would have been more. Got a few of t'others you'll be getting, Lorne, but the case book is a good score; except that it will probably make you cry about half way through - especially the part about the hunting variety.

Lorne WasylishenI am really looking forward to these books and now you have very much piqued my curiosity on the case book.

Larry BuchanCongratulations Lorne, you've got a real bargain there, and lots of good reading, and a great start to any pocket watch collectors library.

Ken HabeebLorne -- to keep this thread in place, I won't link this title, but you can and paste to see the asking price in the big bay:

Lorne WasylishenGot it, Thanks Ken.
December 23, 2013, 18:38
Lorne WasylishenYip Yip Yahoo! the box arrived today and contained 21 books.
This does not however preclude me from asking stupid questions.

Dave TurnerAsk a lot of them Lorne,
It takes a little pressure off of me.

Theodore J. Brown Sr.Lorne, looks like Santa Claus was good to you, that's a super deal you got there! If you haven't seen any of those Roy Ehrhardt books, you'll find them just packed with pics, ad reprints, etc., a lot of great info that's hard to find anywhere else. The guy did an awful lot for us watch collectors, that's for sure.I bought a lot of them back then, but not them all and have been kicking myself ever since, some are pretty hard to get now and awful expensive when you do find them.Merry Christmas, Ted.
December 26, 2013, 14:41
Lorne WasylishenTed, as I look through all of those books I realize how fortunate I was to win that lot. Yes he did a great deal for collectors and interesting to see he mentions that he is much more of a documenter than collector.
Some tough sloggin' with all of that info but it will come.
December 26, 2013, 22:28
Ken HabeebYou'll be a brilliant genius after you make it through the lot, Lorne -- almost as learned as a few other blokes here ahead of you. Take that as a challenge.
(I'm sure I'll have some questions...heh)

Claude GriffithIt is good that you posted this after the fact since I am sure more than a few would have been tag-teaming that auction. The price guides along offer a wealth of info and pictures. I have a few of the price guides that I try to pick up when I can and the price you paid is cheap for what you got, not counting the shipping costs.
