I was thumbing our research section and we don't have a Rockford area , is there enough interest for one ? Lets hear from you ! here is one of mine

I think it would be a good idea, Rockford made nice watches, a boatload of private labels, and some beautiful 2-tones.I think they don't get the respect they deserve!

Sound like a very good idea Kevin & Ted. There are some beautiful watches in their line up, and some of the best damaskeening bar none in imo, beautiful eye candy.

I was thinking it could be set up with images of the models , I have a model 1 , a 2 or 3 , a 7 and a 9 I think . Maybe Dr Debbie could set up the section for us and we can let it rip from there !

This is something to explore, problem with researching Rockfords is some grades being nearly impossible to identify. The late Roy Ehrhardt published a Rockford book back in the 1970s, the smallest of his books with only 68 pages due mainly to a lack of information. Sadly, nearly everything was lost in the 1915 factory fire that tragically ended a long line of great watches.

We have a 5 page topic here that deserves in-depth study...

Some personal favorites are the 18-size 800 and 900 with 24th Jewel Elipse, the ultra-rare 950 Indicator and in 16-size the 655 Indicator number 858329 as shown below was what originally piqued my interest Wink in Rockfords.

Ahh , I see , always search first . Beutiful watch Lindell -if you stare at it too long you get dizzy. It would be nice to compile it on a reasearch section .

I am all in favor of a Rockford site. The factory building is being restored and is to be included in Rockford's riverfront redevelopment. My post retirement watch collecting will be Rockford watches. The city is reviving, albeit slowly. It has its boosters.

A nice Grade 640 Donald, (in some quarters supposedly known as the mythical Series 1,000 you see in the fat book). The Grade 640 is a pendant Set model.

Mythical Series "Special No.1000" referred to on page 347 of the "fat book". What makes it a "1000" vs. a regular 640 grade???
December 23, 2017, 17:30
Bila Wirriganwalters
That's what is so interesting Donald, to my knowledge I have never seen another advert or cut of that series 1,000, and I have seen no other Rockford catalog info that says they even marketed a 1000 series.

Through research by other horologists with regard to distinguishing features on the Rockford 1,000 the Grade 640 was deemed the most likely candidate to be one if there is such a beast.

Love to see a Rockford Research Area. Here's a ca. 1905 Rockford advertising pamphlet that I previously posted:
