Donnie TackettHow do I date this case? Will a Early 992 (1909) Work?
Could someone tell me the date of this old
Hamilton Watch Co. swing case, serial# 10001551?
Does a production date chart exist for these old cases?
Thanks,
Donnie

Donnie TackettThis one is a 16s and I wanted to put a early (1909) 992 in this case.
Would this case be right for a early 992 (1909) and if not what would be appropriate for the early 992?
Thanks,
Donnie

Robert McClellandDonnie, the 992 was first supplied in a factory (railroad) case in 1925 but it was a different case design than yours. Here is an old thread that discusses the early Hamilton 16 size cases like yours and the movements that were supplied in them.
early Hamilton casesA case of a similar design with the long pendant would be appropriate for the 1909 time period. If you are not concerned with absolute historical accuracy, your case would be OK and certainly would look nice.
I bought a 996 in a case similar to yours, which it never originally came in, but at the time I didn't know that. One of my low priority projects is to find an appropriate movement for that case and an other case for the 996. But since they look good together, I may not ever get around to swapping.
